The only problem with these knives is that the blade is often only 6" long---not very useful for slicing larger loaves. But you can also find them as long as 8" or 9" on some restaurant supply websites, and they are usually piced under $30, sometimes half that. I must add the disclaimer that I haven't used any of these knives, so I can't vouch for their quality. But if you have the chance to visit a restaurant supply store (as a opposed to a high-end gourmet cooking boutique) you may find a knife worthy of your loaves.
